International Students

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) values the diversity that international students bring to campus in terms of culture, background and perspectives. CMC enrolls approximately 1,200 students from 42 states and 24 countries. CMC is a small liberal arts college with an emphasis on public policy, public affairs and leadership. Many CMC graduates pursue careers in business, international relations, government and law. Most students graduate in four years.

As a residential college, all freshmen are required to live on campus, and on-campus housing is available for all four years of attendance. Over 90% of CMC students live on campus. New international students are strongly encouraged to participate in the home stay program that is available prior to New Student Orientation. In the home stay program, students stay with host families in the Claremont area and have the opportunity to become acquainted with the local area, the college campus and cultural differences before moving on to the CMC campus. Also, host families often provide international students with a place to stay during campus breaks and, sometimes, a place to have a home-cooked meal.

Two very valuable resources for international students are shared by The Claremont Colleges. International Place (I-Place) is located on the CMC campus and provides international students with activities, resources, Visa assistance and other immigration issues. The goal of I-Place is to create opportunities for international students and American students to interact and to learn across cultures. McAlister Center for Religious Activities helps students with spiritual and religious needs, including locating the proper church, temple or synagogue for students to attend.
